Anti-social behaviour

Anti-social behaviour

Have you been affected by, or do you want to know more about, anti-social behaviour?

Anti-social behaviour is someone’s behaviour that causes you harassment, alarm, distress, nuisance or annoyance. The behaviour could affect you directly or could affect your property or residential area. It can also be related to your housing or occupation.

Anti-social behaviour includes:

  • hate crimes and hate incidents
  • use or threatened use of violence
  • repeated abusive language or behaviour
  • harassment
  • damage to property
  • domestic abuse and violence
  • vehicle nuisance involving cars, bikes or mopeds (e.g. street racing, street cruising, performing stunts or tricks on public roads, misusing vehicles off-road or the unlicensed use of powered vehicles such as mini motorbikes)
  • repeated incidents of loud noise from a domestic property (e.g. persistent shouting or yelling, persistent dog barking, frequent loud music, persistent alarms or excessively loud or frequent parties)
  • misuse of public spaces (e.g. intimidating groups taking over an area of a park or fly-tipping/illegal waste dumping)
  • dog fouling or someone failing to control an aggressive dog
  • anti-social behaviour as a result of misuse of drugs or alcohol

How you might be feeling

Everyone should be able to lead a peaceful life, free from any harassment and distress caused by a minority of anti-social people.

As a victim of anti-social behaviour, you might be going through a range of emotions, including feeling angry or intimidated. This is normal, and help is available.
